Panels

Teaching Classical Greek as a living language

  • Juan Coderch - University of St. Andrews, UK
  • Benjamin Kantor - University of Cambridge, UK
  • Gerardo Guzmàn - Vivarium Novum Academy, Italy
  • Jenny Teichmann - Triodos Trivium, Germany
  • Angela Dix - Classics for All, East of England Co-ordinator, UK

Have you ever wondered why Classical Greek is considered one of the most important subjects at school, yet most students can’t wait to get it over and done with? Isn’t it surprising that, while students have a hard time learning it, they later appreciate and respect the language in its timelessness, in whatever field they find themselves? Why is the interest in learning Classical Greek increasing instead of shrinking? Our panel of leading Professors will address these topics and share new practices that support teaching Classical Greek in an attractive and student-friendly way from the very first day in class.

Redefining Classical Greek: the need to learn and certify

  • Christophe Rico - Polis Institute, Israel
  • Marco Romani – The Paideia Institute, NY, USA
  • Steven Hunt - University of Cambridge, UK
  • Alexis Phylactopoulos - College Year in Athens, Greece
  • Ignacio Armella Chavez - Vivarium Novum Academy, Italy

It is a time when the value of Classical Greek learning at school and university has been questioned, even though the international academic community insists on its benefits. How was this view created and what is its impact on society? Can this be an indication that a new approach to Classical Greek teaching and learning is necessary? Our panel of Directors from classical language educational institutions will focus on how to redefine Classical Greek teaching and motivate students' success through certification.
