For me, winning this scholarship is incredibly important. Coming from Colombia, it represents the fulfilment of a great dream; to study in another country and seek opportunities for a better life. I never believed this was possible, but winning this scholarship has been key to continuing my education and pursuing my dreams.

Since I was a kid, I’ve loved science, but I was always aware of the limited opportunities to pursue a career in this field in my country. When I decided to study in the USA to achieve my goals, I encountered many challenges, including high international fees and being underestimated because of where I come from, even by people in my own community, who thought what I was doing wasn’t worth it. This scholarship has not only been a huge help for me and my family in covering my college tuition but has also given me greater confidence to keep pursuing my dreams, despite the challenges.

Receiving the HACU scholarship sponsored by LANGUAGECERT feels like being on a peaceful beach, much like the one in this picture. It gives me a sense of calm and relief, knowing I have the support to focus on my studies without financial stress. This scholarship allows me to truly appreciate the journey of learning, just as one might enjoy the gentle waves and the serene view. It symbolises a new beginning and motivates me to keep striving for success. My name is Guisela, and I am from Guatemala. I come from a family of ten children, so access to education was not easy. From a young age, I became aware of my family’s economic shortcomings, which motivated me to work hard for good grades and apply for scholarships as I truly want better opportunities in life. I am currently studying Cybersecurity at Spokane Falls Community College, and I am amazed by how different Spokane, Washington, is from my home country.

I am originally from Togo in West Africa, and I am currently pursuing my degree at Sinclair Community College. The college has provided me with resources and support that helped me meet the criteria to qualify for this scholarship, especially the African American Male Initiative, the International Outreach Center, and the Tutoring Center.
