The future of language learning – Joanna Paolinelli: A discussion on how the humanistic approach to language learning enhances not only linguistic competences, but also helps develop emotionally positive attitudes in students. Furthermore, analysis will take place on how methodologies such as project-based learning, task-based learning, and new technologies such as virtual reality can be used as a metacognitive tool which enforces the idea of learning by doing.

Storytelling and film in the English classroom – Chantelle Walsh: By bringing storytelling to our teaching, through imagery and film, we can engage our students while making our teaching memorable. In this session, we will be breaking down the different components of authentic film to give practical ideas for teaching students from A1 upwards.

How do you humanise technology? – Julie Wallis (AISLi): The session will develop ways that online platforms and tools can be used to humanise online teaching (i.e. how to make it learner-led, putting the learner at the heart of the process). Good teaching techniques will be reviewed in an online context – alongside how to set up tasksand activities to engage and motivate learners, and how to involve learners in a continuous humanistic assessment process to improve their performance in a learning-centred context.

The Future of Language Education – lessons learned in critical times – Peter Brown (ECML): Based on an investigation on the impact of the Covid emergency on language education, five key themes will be analysed in relation with their effect on language teaching. These include:

    • Educational adaptability

There's tech in every teacher – Richard Twigg (Macmillan Education): We are surrounded by technology. It’s present in almost every aspect of our lives, but sometimes we teachers feel threatened, scared, afraid, nervous and apprehensive about using technology in our classrooms. In this session, we will set out to tackle this fear, and then we will take a look at some Educational Technology sites and apps that are both fun and easy to use.

Technology that talks – Simon Criswick (MYES): Technological development too often overlooks and neglects communication, promising to increase the level of interactivity without however making students talk. This training aims to offer a series of strategies and ideas aimed at promoting communication within the English language (or other language) classroom. The aim is that the technology used in the classroom effectively enables and promotes Speaking.
