LanguageCert is delighted to announce the upcoming Online Teachers’ Event – titled ‘Cultivating a Culture of Care in Language Education’. The event, scheduled to run on two dates, focuses on the notion of care, care demonstration, and connectedness in education. We will discuss key topics and delve into the nuances of care-focused education to help teachers meet the challenging needs of a shifting educational landscape and breathe new life into their classroom!

The event provides insights and strategies for demonstrating care and connectedness in classrooms and schools. Teachers will learn and discuss how to exhibit care by adapting their teaching to meet their students’ needs, all the while building connections and positive student-teacher relationships at all levels of education and in all learning environments.

During the event, critical topics around effective language education will be addressed:

• What do you believe is care in language education?
• How does care look like within language education contexts?
• How can you develop an effective ‘vocabulary of care’ when it comes to teaching?  
• What constitutes the language of care – and how is care expressed within different languages and discourses?

The sessions will include input from active teachers surrounding the key themes and their individual experiences, updates from the LanguageCert team and a Q&A section at the end.

About our speakers:

Jane Arnold was Full Professor of English Language Teaching Methodology at the University of Seville, Spain.  She has numerous publications, including Affect in Language Learning, translated to Spanish, La dimension afectiva en el aprendizaje de idiomas; Meaningful Action; Earl Stevick’s Influence on Language Teaching with Tim Murphey; Imagine That! Mental Imagery in the EFL Classroom with Herbert Puchta and Mario Rinvolucri; Seeds of Confidence with Veronica de Andrés and Atención a la dimensión afectiva en la enseñanza del español with José Manuel Foncubierta. She is on advisory boards for language teaching organisations and publishers and has given plenaries, workshops, and modules for Masters in several European countries, North and South American, Africa and Asia. She has participated frequently in training courses with the Cervantes Institute for teachers of Spanish. Her main research area is the affective domain of language learning and teaching.

Kieran Donaghy is a freelance teacher, trainer, international conference speaker and award-winning writer. His website Film English has won a British Council ELTons Award for Innovation in Teacher Resources. He is the author of Film in Action (Delta Publishing). Kieran is the founder of The Image Conference and co-founder of the Visual Arts Circle, a community of practice of language teaching professionals.
